Rick you don't need an asbestos suit, However when you said "Terry,Well
said." you implied that you agreed with what he had said. If you had
qualifications over and above what you noted you should have stated them
otherwise you tarred yourself with the same brush.
This should be a forum for SHARING GOOD, SOUND, SAFE, TECHNICAL ADVICE. If
someone states and opionion or position that may harm, injure or waste
someones money, than I believe we have an obligation to offer another side
to it so that perception can be corrected. If that is not the purpose of
this net, than I stand corrected.
Many times we buy name brand products thinking that we are getting the best
products and never know that we are not getting what we paid for. Maybe you
have the technical expertise to tell the difference from one camshaft to the
next but how many other netters do?
Joe Mondello has talked to me several times at length about the Olds 455
engine and the GMC motorhome in particular with never a mention of monetary
gain. On the contrary after our first discussion he sent me free
autographed technical manuals, articles that he has written on the 455
engine etc, containing information that I would never had access to without
a lot of trial and error mistakes. So I guess I don't understand your
position about him gaining. For the quality of his products I do not think
his prices are out of line in the least. Remember he has an extensive
technical advice section that in the end could save us a lot of money. Why
would we want to bash him?
Relative to my remarks about the camshafts of some grinders. He did mention
that he tested many other manufacturers cams and many of the most visible
manufacturers actual published duration figures did not correlate to the
actual measured duration figures of the intake and exhaust lobes. He never
mentioned who they were since it really is not important. Every business
worth its salt quality checks the competition.
As for the credentials they don't mean much in todays world. Performance is
what counts. I have seen lots of master mechanics hang a brake caliper from
the brake hose when replacing disks. I am a retired professional engineer,
so what. Does not get me anything when I am greasy and filthy working on my
GMC trying to remove a wheel bearing and grease seal(wrong one) that someone
else had installed. Wonder as I pull a muscle in my shoulder crawling
around on the floor what credentials that mechanic had.
Its easy to say chill out. The point is that aspersions were cast on Joe
Mondellos business and the products he sells, that I strongly feel were
totally uncalled for. We need to support those business's that are keeping
the parts for the GMC motorhome alive. If we don't the coaches will end up
in the junk yard.
While you might not like the term "sucker" that is what we all are when we
allow businesses to take advantage of us and sell us substandard products or
services or charge us ridiculous prices.
Like it or not I am still "fat dumb and happy" when driving my GMC
motorhome. That is the way I described myself, and last I knew I still have
a right to do that.
