Mr. Warner, perhaps a great germ of an idea. What if the group came up
with an emergency repair parts depot. Initiation fee of $150.00 and a
yearly due of $50. If you had 100 members you could do a lot of parts -
complete engines, trans, final drive etc. Stored at a depot and sent on
demand for "EMERGENCY" repairs under some agreed upon definition. The
member using the part would be responsible for paying for what it costs
to replace plus shipping.

Perhaps one of the list vendors (JB -hint,hint,wink,nod) could store
them. It would have been a great help for my problem in NC. I am happy
with what was done, but had to solve some small leaks myself.

Any ideas from the rest of the list?

Marcus

Gentlemen
I'm a little far north to organize this, but it sure sounds like a
security blanket to me. Anyone willing to start co-ordinating ideas?
In the mean time, let me find my US cheque book......now let me
see, 1st year $200.00...payable to ....is that Jim or James :-)
Mike Beaton......up north where it rains, not down south where it freezes ??

Sounds like the start of a new business for someone. How about a GMC co-op
for us. Lowest cost to the members!

I believe it is important that good planning go in to the idea. for instance
it would make more sense to me:

1. to have one located at a centrally located place or multiple places.

2. Have the engines, transmissions and final drives built by a reputable
machine shop (not a mechanic at the dealers) to our specs(by the way I will
start on a spec sheet for my engine soon to Mondello blueprint specs) Good
parts for a fantastic motorhome. Have the engine dyno tested at the machine
shop and a record of it attached to the engine. In other words an engine
that would be reliable and last a long time.

3.Negotiate rates for removal of the old parts and installation of our new
parts, in different areas of the country at locations spread across the
country, that are reachable for our members in accordance with their
insurance. The members would know how much they would be spending up front
when they break down (boy would that be a stress reliever).

4. Recrating of the old parts for rebuilding if possible. Core charge to
the buyer for all parts until they prove rebuildable.

5. Negotiated rates with freight haulers to get the parts there fast.

What have I missed?
