As to places that things bolt on. Or the pipe threaded holes. It's a perfect match. Did the first cleaning this afternoon. Looks great. But tomorrow I'll put the stainless steel beads to it. That will take care of any stains to the aluminum.
Got the Olds aluminum intake for my 403. No modifications will be needed.

Bob, make really, really, sure that you get all those beads out of that
manifold. Bad juju happens when those things encounter cylinder bores and
moving pistons.

I'm with Jim on this. A few stains...no big deal. Beads in your engine...big deal. Personally I would not even chance it. I fella I know rebuilt
his SMC and as a part of the process, bead blasted his rocker covers, just so he could paint them and look nice. 10 minutes into the run-in, knock
...knock...knock. Took out the new motor. That stuff gets into places where you can't get them out. JMHO....based on observed bad experience.

If my memory serves me well when I had the machine work on the Caddy 500
done by Scroggins Machine in Houston I asked if they would use an abrasive
to blast the engine parts to clean them. They said NO! We use steel shot, as
in "shot peening."

Laquer thinner or brake cleaner works well on aluminum intakes.
Especially if you can do it on a work bench using a stiff brush.

I have used Alumi-Brite acid cleaner for aluminum for years. (Thinking). Best when mixed as directed 6 parts water one part alumibrite in a garden
sprayer. Do not breathe the fumes or get it on you. Rubber gloves and apron. Spray on, let foam, brush and rinse or pressure wash off. Start at
bottom and soak upwards, runs will show if you start at the top and let it run down. In bout 2 hours you have a new looking 45' swirled polished
aluminum Ravens flatbed.

The stainless steel beads are about .030 inch. Next the manifold goes into the hot tank for about 15 mins. Then put to the HOTZ after using long brushes on the inside. Then run a camera in the runners. This is how I clean my race engines that often hit 8,000 RPM's. As at that speed, and RPM's. Failure IS NOT an option with someone on you back bumper. Bob Dunahugh
