Also, same vein as Arch's post --

Patrick Bedard's column (p. 33) in the November Car and Driver has
interesting info on oils for 'classic' vehicles.

Couldn't find the website of the company Lubrication Science in Scotch
Plains, NJ, but the bottom line is the recommendation of oil types CG-4 or
CF-4 or CF-2.

These are compression ignition oils (diesel). The article carries a warning
of using these high detergent oils in older engines, you could plug a
hydraulic lifter.

More Olds than GMC, but I've given you these links at the lowest possible
cost.

I hesitate to report this, but the October issue of CC had the 10 worst
engines, and on that list was the 500cid Cad. I presume it was due to the
anemic .38 horse per cube rating. Just reporting the article, not taking a
position.
