I had a most interesting and enjoyable time hosting Arch on Monday and
Tuesday. We talked about a multitude of subjects (e. g. national energy
policy development foreshadowing subsequent world events, university
politics/bribery (the later my characterization), student/family values and
manifestations, old house preservation/restoration, card board boat
building, etc., and oh yes a few GMC stories) and I found his life's
experiences extremely insightful and enlightening. I felt much the better
for having the opportunity of his visit. I'm just sorry that since I still
put in my appearance at work, I couldn't spend more time with him during the
day.

We even went out to dinner at a nice restaurant where we met up with Emery
Stora, his wife, Mark Grady, plus other local GMCers. There were 13 in all
for dinner. Everyone enjoyed each others company so much that we spent over
three hours there.

In giving Arch routing information, I mentioned some restaurants along his
travel way, "common, working folk" type, with good but inexpensive food.

It just dawned on me that we ought to build a data base of those that we've
discovered along the major highways, for the benefit and convenience of all
GMC travelers. I'm not necessarily talking about national chain type
restaurants (i. e. Perkins, Cracker Barrel, etc.), unless you feel
otherwise. I know that this may duplicate such publications as the Exit
Guide, etc. Any thoughts from anyone on this suggestion??? I'd even
volunteer to keep the data, al la the "Black list".

If this is something we should do, send me your info, including the type of
food served if applicable, location, including exit number if along
Interstate highways, etc., privately and I'll compile the list and make it
available. Perhaps Patrick could be persuaded to eventually post the list
on his web site??? Or are there any other suggestions??

When I talked to my friend yesterday the 12" long X 6" 4140 pre-hard steel
stock had not arrived yet. He expected it to arrive anytime now. will talk
to him again tomorrow. it will not take long to make them after the stock
is here.
