We did the Ham Radio thing a couple weeks back. How many more pilots do
we have on GMCnet?

I have a private pilot's licensee. I am not current and have not flown (as
pilot) for several years. I gave it up because of a lack of money. I have
had an A&P mechanic licensee since 1966. I have worked as a mechanic for a
major airline since 1967. I plan to retire from the airline next spring and
work for a freight company. The wages and benefits are much better at the
freight company. I guess the cheap air fairs are taking their toll, which
is another subject that I could ramble on about.

Well... at least one more lurking. Many years ago I used to fly bush and
later corporate. Eventually relized that too much time was a'wasting sitting
around airports waiting for the 'boss' and switched to computers :-). The
jury is still out on whether it was a good move or not [g].

What elevated my confidence in the GMC was seeing one stripped down, and I
do mean stripped down, at Buskirks. It reminded me of seeing Beavers,
C180's, 185's down to the bare bones and get resurrected into beautiful (and
safe) flying machines. Lots of similarities can be drawn between aircraft
(airplaes?) and our GMC's

Another nice thing about the GMCnet, a whole variety of nice folk :-)

Russ,

I worked the flight line for Capital Airlines at Washington National in 1957
changing electronic boxes.

Mostly radial engines (except for our Viscounts) and all vacuum tube
electronics in those days.

I went back to school, Capital went on strike, and United got most of the
remains after
the bankruptcy.

Later got my A&P so I could pull wrenches on my own, which I am doing this
week. Giving it an Annual which includes a bear of a gear inspection A.D.

I too have a private single engine license. Not current due to lack of funds.
So will spend what I have on my recent GMC purchase.

Russ, thanks for the recomendation to take the GMC to Dale in Castell, Tx. He
performed extensive preventive maintenance on the suspension, wheel bearings,
fuel system, engine timing and rerouting of vacuum hoses which had been
incorrectly routed by some previous soul. He just looked at the engine
compartment and announced the cruise doesn't work (it didn't) and just knew the
timing was too far advanced by the way it tried to start when hot.

He knows GMCs and I highly recommend his work for anyone near central Texas.
His phone is 915 247-3616

I stayed two days at his shop and enjoyed the education. He is obviously an
expert mechanic on all aspects of the GMC chassis. Besides Stacy, his wife
cooks breakfast and lunch in the Country Store next to the shop for everyone.
Just part of the service.

I got my license in Dec. 1976, bought a 1960 cessna 172 to learn to fly
in (couldn't see paying rent on an airplane). Long story short, five of
us guys learned to fly in that plane. Yes it is still around, however I
haven't had it for years.

Patrick,

When I was searching for a coach this spring, I was amazed at the number
of GMC owners that turned out to be pilots too. I looked at 12 coaches
and met 7 pilots in the process, including the fellow whose coach I
bought. (78 Royale, Hooray!) His GMC traveling buddy who showed me the
coach is a retired Air Force pilot, his wife is a pilot, and when not
working on his 2 GMC's he's building an airplane.

I did not let this deter me from buying the coach, even though I
generally have trouble operating a screwdriver. Fortunately, I'm only 2
hours from Buskirk and Cinnabar!

What a coincidence, came upon this as I was reading my mail on my
laptop as I was Space-Aing on a C141 from Peterson AFB to Charleston
AFB.
Retired AF/Air Guard pilot.
Have not flown for years but one of these days !!!
