At this summers Branson rally. A guy showed up only to find out his engine problem was a cracked head. Or both. Don't remember all the details. But some guys jumped in to get the 455 apart. Some how found some shop, or person in Ohio that had some so called good heads. The guy that owned the GMC paid a lot for the heads. Plus shipping. Well. Those great heads weren't very good. But they'd get him back to Texas. It just makes me sick to see this happen. Is there some way that people that have good used parts. Can post them to some page that well keep the listing until there sold. Many of us have lots of used parts that really need new homes at owners that need them. You just can't find these parts out there anymore. I hear of guys that have this stuff. But say they have no way to get rid of it. You can put some ad out there in June. Then in Oct someone needs that part. But by then the ad is gone. We need to unite on this in some way to keep these GMC's on the road.

Great idea! I will get right on it. It can be housed on the site with the
parts interchange, etc. Anyone willing to assist or have ideas on how to
implement, just drop me an email or call. kim

Can the used parts exchange follow the same order, format as the parts exchange?

I never bring anything up to do. Without offering to do it. Well, this idea is be on my computer skills. So help is needed. And I'm interested In doing what I'm capable of doing. As good used parts are becoming extremely hard to find.

Is it going to be limited to those that are broken down on the road or open
to all?

GMCMI has it's new parts book that's in print. But this used parts list would have to be an internet list. As it would be changing all the time as I see it. And could be accessible at anytime, or place. I have a 403 head that has been properly cleaned, and magnafluxed for cracks. Then a 3 angle valve job. Panted the proper corporate blue. This is the type of part that would be an example of a part for the list.

As much as I like the idea of a list of spare parts that are scattered
across the U.S. of A. I would not be willing to publish what parts I have
accumulated for fear of someone wanting to stock pile the parts for there
own selfish reasons.

If someone traveling and is in dire need of a part that would be a
different story. I would be more than willing to accommodate someone in
that situation.

As I have reread your post I see this as getting rid of spare parts that
people don't want anymore and making the parts available to someone that
needs or just wants the parts as spares.

Bruce,

Below you have written; "I would not be willing to publish what parts I have accumulated for fear of someone wanting to stock pile
the parts for there own selfish reasons."

I'm going to play the devils advocate and risk pissing you off:

1) The parts you have accumulated but not will to publish isn't selfish?

2) Who determines dire need?

Sorry if I piss you off.

Bob,

I have two large crates of used parts I am going to ship to Sydney and publish for GMC owners in Australia.

I think this idea is great and I'll put together a list of parts I have in Houston when I'm back in the USA in March/April.

ha ha ha...stockpiling parts to prevent people from stock piling parts [?]

Probably what he's mostly concerned about is someone getting all the parts, storing them and not making them available to anyone else.

OR selling them for profit.

If you have parts that you don't want to sell for whatever reason. Don't list them. As far as why they want the part I'd sell. I don't care why they'd buy a part I had. I've got parts I'd give away just to make someone happy. This idea is more about helping each other in finding the items we need. And can't find. No matter the size. I've had parts that were on my want list. And couldn't find it. And I know that someone has that part that they don't need or want anymore. It would also help that widow that ends up with HIS prize stuff. Then knowing the parts went to some other GMC owner. And not the land fill. We've all heard those stories way to often. We're way too small of a committee to not be thinking of each other.

Bob,

so you want a system, where people can list items that they do not need
any more, and others can search for items that they need.

Everybody should be able to view the list of items.
If someone wants to list an item, s/he has to authenticate against the
system.
Each user has the ability to list all of his/her stuff to easily get an
overview.
Each user lists communication information on how best to reach him/her

Each item should, if possible, have some kind of unique identifier and
description that can be searched for.
Each item can have a picture.
Each item should have a quality designator, like: Like new, good
replacement, for emergency only
Each user defines a location where stuff is, so people can limit or sort
their searches by location. The location shouldn't be an exact location,
but a nearby town is fine.

If an item gets transferred someone, the original user listing the item
should remove it from the system.

Does that sum it up, or am I missing anything?

Sounds like a great idea to me. Parts entry should be a very simple
form-filling exercise for each parts owner. A categorization of parts
would be great, but I seriously doubt that it would be adhered to very well
by folks entering their parts. So, I think a good search function, like
Google, would be essential. That way anyone needing a part could just
enter a colloquial expression like "I need a starter" and find all the
starters in the database.

If some computer expert would do the programming, I'm sure someone would be
willing to host the site. And that everyone from GMCNet to bdub, to GMCMI,
to all the regional clubs would be glad to advertise it.

I know I've got lots of parts I should make available -- before I have to
move away from my current good storage space. And I suspect friends would
be willing to list the parts which some members' widows find themselves
burdened. All-in-all, a good deal for everyone.

Well Peer. That sums the idea up well. Needs to be kept as simple as possible. I have a very nice complete 78 frame that will need a new home. Even has the state title with VIN. All or parts.

Good morning,

I previously responded to the first email of Bob's suggestion but must of
been lost in the train. GMCMI would be like to offer the gmcmi.net website
where the electronic parts interchange, technical newsletter and magazines
are housed. It does require you to sign up to use, but is "FREE" to do so.
That would allow control of users in case of any abuse. Thank you for the
detailed list of guidelines for submission and execution. I am on it! kim
