I too recently had the wipers come on with out warning. I solved the
problem by installing a light weight and short (about 1 inch)
compression spring (expanded coils that try to return to orgingal length
when compressed) over the cable and between the valve lever and stop on
the wiper motor. This keeps the lever in the off position and the
wipers off until I need them, without adding any noticable resistance to
the dash control lever movement.
