I have just subscribed to this list. I have just recently been looking at
RV's and taking the plunge (previously been renting a unit from time to
time). I have look at several different coaches and I keep coming back to
the GMC as one of the choices that would fit my needs.

Questions:

o Other than frame rust or major engine overhaul concerns are there any
other major systems that would need to be considered as part of the purchase
decision?
o Are there certain parts that are now becoming hard to find/replace?

I personally would prefer to find a unit to recondition but of reasonable
mechanical condition. If members of the list have any leads on a GMC that
would be a good restoration project drop me a line --

Thanks.

A great list.

Welcome to GMCnet John! I'll let others respond to your questions(I've been
doing too much "talking" again). You'd be hard pressed to find a more
helpful group of RVers.

John,
I will give you my simple answer to your questions. Greater detail can be
found on Gene's site. Your questions were:
o Other than frame rust or major engine overhaul concerns are there any
other major systems that would need to be considered as part of the purchase
decision?
o Are there certain parts that are now becoming hard to find/replace?

Yes, there are major systems that should be looked at closely before
purchase. Some are:
1. Transmission
2. Front suspension
3. Rear suspension
4. Wheels and tires
5. Onan
7. Air Conditioners (Engine and roof)
8. Appliances, heaters, plumbing
9. Exterior and interior condition
It is easy to spend a couple of thousand dollars or more on each of these
items so you can see how important a look at each.

About your question on parts. Availability is suprisingly good. If the
part is not available, tested work arounds are.

Good Luck.

For the record, I am located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. As far a
location, west of the Mississippi to possibly California would be my range.
So far I thank everyone for their input. Keep it coming.

Thanks.

Hi John!
Welcome to the list and the N. Texas wannabes :-) I'm coachless also but
optimistic. I don't hold the record on this list as a long time wannabe,
but probably close -- I think that honor belongs to list member Roger Black.

Life's a real trip!

John,
I live in Arlington, TX if you want to have another set of eyes when you are
looking. BTW, I'm on the Black List and in the phone book.
