Thanks for the info. If I'm also changing the filter when in this process
should I do this? Also is burnt fluid always a sign of bad news. The
fellow I got my 73 from towed a boat in ruff terrain and used it for a
launch vehical. Thanks again Scott. Arden

Arden,

Burnt fluid should be completely purged from the system. That means
the cooler and all the lines, so make your hose connection at the
transmission driver's side fitting so you'll get all the bad stuff out.
You only have to use the special flush if you find metal in the system
and you are changing the transmission.

The fluid may be burnt, but the transmission might still be all
right. The main reason that burnt fluid should be changed is that it
loses it's lubricating properties and could damage your transmission's
bushings.

Boat launching can be very hard on any transmission. Driving up
boat ramps which are invariably steep at low speeds causes the torque
converter to really heat up the fluid.
