Ron and Gina-
I'm presuming that your model 24 is essentially the same design as the
Nt 30 that I have. If it is original, you will find that the oil in the
motor bearings will be all dried out after 20+ years so it is good
preventive maintance to pull the furnace when you have the time and
remove the fan and motor and regrease the bearings for another 20 years
of life.
Undoing the screws or rivets on the outside allows you to pull the
outside cover and vent extension off.Be sure you get the one in the
middle of the exaust vent. Then working from the inside one can either
pullout the inards of the furnace out of the square steel box or remove
the whole thing. Of course you will need to disconnect the gas line and
the electric line.
Incidently I have just had to replace the electrical module on mine at
22years old. They still supply them, but they are expensive- 169.00
Canadian.
