Folks......

There is a difference between....

Do it this way! and.....

In my humble opinion...you should do it this way.

Enjoy...

Yes, yes; "can't we all just get along" and the art of compromise and don't
say anything that might offend someone---like "human" (contains "man" and
thus is offensive to women's lib types) or "niggardly" since if you don't
know what it means and don't want to be bothered with looking it up just
doesn't "sound" good.

The problems we've seen here the last couple of days occur when someone
takes it upon himself to FORCE this politically correct Dale Carnegie mush
on someone (like me, I'm afraid) who is accustomed to speaking his thoughts
to peers who can understand without the sugar coating.

A thinking man will notice that it is those who claim to be the most
"tolerant" who, in reality, are the least tolerant of anyone with whom they
disagree. Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin---why, they were just trying to create the
ideal society.

Ideal if you fit their pattern that is.

But then I supported Nixon, come to think of it.

Okay, I'm looking back over my response to this and realizing that it may
sound more intense than I meant it to be.

My point is that one's opinion need not be humble. There is no reason
whatever that I or anyone else can't make a simple statement like, "The sky
is green," with which you, the reader, can choose to agree or disagree.

If you disagree, fine. But I see no reason why I should be required to
phrase it: "In my humble opinion, the sky is green."

If you feel the need to correct me, you can say, "No, the sky is blue" if
you like. Or, if it is your preference, you can say, "In my humble opinion,
the sky is blue." The choice is yours. Why can't I have the same choice? Is
it only if my position agrees with yours that I can leave out the "humble"
part?

But doesn't anyone else see the irony in being ordered not to give orders?

A not terribly humble Travis

Travis, when you are this right there is reason to be proud, not humble! I don't recall anyone
forcing their way into my garage and dictating how I operate. That's the best thing about advice, I
can accept it or toss it aside.

Let's all get a thicker skin and knock off the name calling and accusations. It is such a waste of
time.
