My friend here in Southern who is in the GMC Repair business does the
best job ever in adjusting the Steering Gear Box just like the book said.
Except, he does not remove it from the Coach or drain the fluid. Works
like a champ w/o the removal time & also removal will moves everything
on the bottom of the reservoir to the top & mixes it with the fluid. I
have done it like my friend & would not do it any other way. Move the
Torque wrench slowly & you will get a true torque reading even with the
fluid present. Remove the output shaft connection at the steering arm
that goes to the Steering Relay Arm. This will allow the output shaft to
rotate freely. Every thing else is like the book. From my observation,
many, many, many GMC's Gear boxes are out of adjustment & bad steering is
the results. Best to adjust like the book & be sure.
