Arch,
I solved this same problem this past summer when I was trying to figure out
how to get better cooling at idle. One mine the shroud ended just at the
front of the fan blades. After querying the group I found that mine was
missing an essential part of it's shroud. I found two easy ways to correct
it without spending big bucks. The first was to purchase an extender block
to extend the fan shaft so the fan blades would stick far enough into the
existing shroud to create the necessary ducted fan effect. This method
would have worked just fine but would have cost about 10 bucks. I then
looked around the shop for some rubber or plastic of about the right degree
of stiffness and found that I had a leftover piece of formica which was
just right (but it wasn't quite the right shade of green). I then cut a
strip about 2 1/2" x 3' and wrapped it around the existing bezel to extend
it to about even with the rear of the fan blades. I found that I wouldn't
need to remove it to change belts so I just fastened it in place with some
sheet metal screws.
All that's necessary to get full cooling is to have the blades enclosed
within a duct so do it the easy way and save your dollars for something
important like a new dash or efi.
Enjoy
