I can relate to the nest in the flue, prior to getting our GMC years ago
we used an 18ft trailer, we found that the birds like to build nests in
or under the ref raincap, some species even like going deep into the vent
so part of yearly check of the unit was a visual check of the vent,
Then I decided that it was foolish to fight mother nature. I made a vent
screen from course wire screen, and mounted it under the ventcap so that
the birds could not even enter under the cap. that stopped the nest building.
I still included the visual inspection for reason of leaks and possible
wasp, mud-dubber and spiders nests to prevent air flow problems.
