I took the cap down last fall to install a Winegard Satellite Dish on
the roof.
I had to remove some of the side window panels to clear the cap to come
down. The visors take a large wrench and an excessive lot of turns to get
loose. : ) I'd suggest an extra set of hands to help on the removal when
all the fasteners are out. The cap back edge is under the ceiling headliner
so the cap must go forward to get out.
A previous owner of my Royale had stripped some of the holes and had
installed rivets which I had to drill out...at the time, I didn't know if
these were standard or not....sigh...long learning curve.
I had no problem with removing the screws themselves. I suggest a small
multi compartment container/box to put the screws in. There'll be three or
four different kinds. You might want to make a reminder as to which holes
they came out of.
I did a lot of patching of cracks around screw holes in the cap. I also
added some fiberglass strips to the back just to add some reinforcement.
Before putting the cap back up. I marked the location of the screw
holes so I could easily align the holes in the cap with the screw holes.
It went back up easier than I expected. The holes in the rear of the
cap have to align with the ones in the headliner.
With the cap down, I checked for water leaks and was able to easily
route the satellite dish cables.
I'll probably drop it again this summer to put in cell phone and GPS
antennas ...and insulation which I just flat missed on my "list of things to
do while the cap is down"..
