Paul,
Yes I did mount the fan with nylon mounts...I hope I won't be sorry
later. I may fabricate something out of angle iron, etc. I was in
somewhat of a crunch for time before the Marion rally to get the fan
on. I've got to limber up the torch anyway to make a new battery
platform for the vehicle battery.
My reasons for the electric fan were 2-fold. First, I believe my fan
clutch is bad because I've never heard it kick in and I watched the temp
gauge go to the halfway point on one trip this summer at red lights. I
did replace the thermostat with the Robertshaw model (identical to the
one I removed) and the radiator cap (10# from NAPA, I believe). The
second reason was to cool the engine compartment after shutdown which
the elecric fan does quite well. There is ample room on the back of the
radiator for another 16 in. fan if I should need it. I can't comment on
a performance boost yet, because I left the old fan in place due to the
time contraint...no shroud, so it's just helping to guzzle gas so far.
Thanks for the reply.

Hope you didn't mount your electric fan to the radiator with nylon ties
or
similar anchors, because they will chaff the radiator core over time due
to
vibrations.
What effect on engine performance have you noticed since making the
conversion???
