Emery,

I assume your umbrella is with your homeowners insurance. Are you able to
separate out one vehicle (the GMC) and still keep the umbrella and other
vehicles with the homeowners?

Thanks

Subject: GMC: GMC Insurance

Thought some of you might want to compare your insurance rates.

I have insurance through RV Alliance. It is actually underwritten by other
insurance company members of RV Alliance depending on the state you live in.
In my case, NM is covered by Royal & SunAlliance formerly Royal Globe
Insurance.

I had received a notice that I would be required to send in an appraisal on
my 1977 GMC. This was to give us a "appraised value" amount in case of
total
loss. My appraisal came in at $28,050. I then found out that the value
that
RV Alliance was using before was $26,900 without an appraisal.

My premium for one year is $391.00 as follows:

Each Person Each Occurrence Premium
Liability 500,000 141.00
Medical Pmts 5,000 17.00
Uninsured Motorist 500,000 47.00

Comprehensive (excluding collision)
ACV less $100 deductible 125.00
Collision
ACV less $250 deductible 54.00

Towing and Labor Costs $500 per disablement
Motorhome Plus II coverage 7.00

Total Premium 391.00

Please note that even though it shows $500 for towing the Plus II coverage
gives unlimited towing and some other things. Last summer I had two tows
each of which were greatly in excess of $500. They paid them immediately.

Of course, premiums will vary from state to state. I have been using
Alexander & Alexander for many years before they changed to RV Alliance. I

have found them an excellent company to deal with. When a truck threw up
some rocks and broke both my windshields on I-25 near Denver last year they
told me to take it anywhere I wanted to and send them the bill. I received
a
check within a week of sending them the bill. They also waived my
deductible
since I had not had a claim in a few years. I believe they reduce it by a
percentage each year that you don't make a claim.

I also keep a relatively inexpensive one million dollar "Umbrella" policy on
my homeowner's insurance that would cover me if the liability under my auto
/
motorhome insurance policies reach their $500,000 cap.

The PEL(umbrella) policy should be excess of any personal liability policies
that meet the minimum underlying limit provision. If the minimum underlying
provision is not met, then a "gap" will exist before the PEL attaches
coverage. Some PEL's may exclude exposures like aircraft, but it shouldn't
matter what company actually has the underlying coverage. If your PEL
excludes the motorhome only because it's written by another company, find
another company to write the PEL.

As always, read your policy(should that be RTFP?).

I too was surprised to hear that you can separate one vehicle from an
umbrella. I suspect the insurance experts may have a different opinion.

Good Sam is good but you need to join them. Equals extra $$
Camping World uses same service (also good) and covers all vehicles
(Except planes )
Heard FMCA is also good.

Allstate is a good bet for stand alone towing insurance.

There is a place on the GMC Mart for survey inputs. This might be a good
subject to try for starters.

The real question is, could you place your GMC insurance with a specialty
carrier without impacting your umbrella policy. I think this may vary
from state to state but I believe 'Stacking" has something to do with
your ability to do this in FL.

I hate to belabor the issue but, I pretty well understand what I have
written but apparently no one else does. I hear clearly that all vehicles
are under the umbrella! But it was stated that an owner has separated his
GMC from the umbrella and that is acceptable to the provider of the
umbrella. I don't see how this works. The umbrella provider needs to know
the max exposure and they usually require that ALL vehicles are declared
and covered.

I confess I am also insurance challenged. Does anyone understand what I
am explaining poorly?
