gmc gps antenna location

Interesting - sounds like Cadillac is using an "active"(amplified) antenna.
I wonder where the antenna is in the OEM installation?

GMC owner Dick Kennedy, is a radio designer for Del??, the former Delco. He
e-mailed me earlier this morning as a result of our discussion on GPS
antenna's, about this very same principle of the GPS antenna possibly being
able to work in the GMC under the front cap, since its fiberglass with the
following:

Have you tried the gps under the fiberglass? If it's thin enough and the
fiberglass is the right composition it may work and if it does that would
sure beat making more holes.
If I ever get around to refurbishing that part I'll attempt to remove all
the antennas from the top and put them under the fiberglass. We've been
doing essentially this on new cars for some time now but I don't have any
personal experience with gps. If I get a chance I'll ask the guys who are
currently working with gps.

Hold the (GPS) fire on that under the roof. My 73 roof is all aluminum, stem
to stern and my GPS just goes to sleep if held up there

Hate to be the first to tell you, but both the front and rear caps on the
GMC ARE all fiberglass, 73s included.

Not to mention that all handheld GPSs(including my Tripmate - which
really doesn't qualify as handheld) use passive antennas that are easily
blocked. The Tripmate can't even "see" through the factory bronze tint
on Sharon's Silhouette.
