Now Arch read my post carefully. I know you dont agree with my on most
things. Just giving you credit for your prior observations. I simply said
"The choice as Arch says is yours." The words after that Arch are mine. It
says nothing about your agreeing with me or not. In fact I know you do not
agree with me since you did not order a puller. Guess you are going to be
stubborn and keep chiseling or burning those babies off.

Peace Arch

Arch you jumped to conclusions again. I always install new bearings and hand
pack them with mobil 1, But save the old ones, pack them in resealable
plastic bags, and would not hesitate to reuse them again if I need to.

The bearings that you reused undoubtably would fail if you removed them with
a chisel, no matter how carefully you packed them.

The point is Arch I would never remove a bearing from a $500 hub and knuckle
assembly with anything but a bearing puller. Why would you want to take the
chance of screwing up the hub?

Arch I did for a brief moment entertain the thought of having you autograph
my pullers. But it quickly passed.

Arch a bearing puller is still reserved for you if you want it, and I will
autograph it for you.

Hey Arch -- just relax and take it easy, the problem is you don't have a
screen door to let some of those cool breezes in by the babbling brook
at Quartzite.

By the way-how do you get your bearings off. I hope you don't take it
down to the corner garage like I did the first time --they cut them off
with a torch!! Knocked my socks right off.Only good thing was the new
bearings didn't fail when I went right acroos the country the following
week, whereas if I'd kept on the old ones who knows what might have
happened.
Any way with your resourcefulness I'm sure you have figured out a
way,--likely if everybody else has pullers, and the way you are able to
search out the Internet you will be able to resource every GMCer in
America, and would be able to locate one of us.Maybe best not to ask
Tom's help however- at least not for the moment.

Claude in Victoria, just having some fun also- if you'all don't mind.

Trying to screen the anticipated heat and smoke over the much
ballyhooed '20% more load-carrying capacity...' that I know is bound
to come up soon, (maybe next). I am even more convinced this
time, that the problem is... What is the meaning of the word "it".

On page 7 of the 6/96 article, a statement is made, "GMSPO got Timken
to produce a new bearing set that had adequate unassembled axial
clearance and higher load-carrying capacity. The new bearing is GMC
Motorhome part number 12351677. [It] (sic) has 20% more load
carrying capacity than generic bearing sets..."

The 12351677 bearing set superseded the GM 7455526 (New Departure
Hyatt) bearing set and that is, I believe, what the antecedent of the
pronoun [it] is comparing/referring to (that is to say the generic
bearing sets that correspond to the older GM number 7455526).

I am specifically *not* saying, that the 12351677 has 20% more load
carrying capacity than the generic bearing sets that correspond to
them in, lets say, the Timken line sold at your local bearing supplier
(and not sold with selected spacers for axial clearance).

Wrong Claude! I would help old Arch in a minute. Just would not use one of
my autographed pullers on his coach. Would use one before it was
autogra[hed, or maybe my old trusty cold chisel.
