A while back in GMC International News Letter it was mentioned that you
could drill a hole (not sure but think it was 1 1/2 inch) in the front of
the engine compartment under the carpet flap at the front of the step and
cover the hole with a moveable metal cover plate that way if you have an
engine fire you don't have to open engine cover to direct your fire
extingusher you just insert end into hole. Don't know if it works but an
idea, It may help.

I recall reading that article but I think if I sense there is an engine
fire I will grab my sweetie, (who carries my credit card) the Registry,
my cell phone and bolt for the door!

Would creating a hole in the firewall be the smart thing to do? An
automatic fire supressor would probably be better but in the absence of
any such equipment, I'm moving as fast as I can go.

Erv,
I have to disagree with your "fire tip." That hatch is there to protect you
from that occurrence. DON'T OPEN THAT HATCH IF YOU SUSPECT FIRE. You have
no idea what is under there and when you open it, the fire is now inside the
coach with you.

GET OUT of the coach and fight the fire from outside if you have to.

Having lost a son fairly recently due to a kitchen fire, his choice of
fighting the fire rather than walking out the door only a couple of feet
away was a fatal choice. I would hate to hear of the same happening to a
GMC'er.

AND, please ensure that everyone in the coach knows how to
use the fire extinguisher.
