Arch,
Thanks for the comments I have not sucumbed to the fear factor even
though it is an easy trap to fall in. I generally evaluate the factual
information I am able to find and make a rational decision based on the
best facts available. Although at times I do wonder if the decision to
drive a 26 year old classic was rational or emotional. However, I will
continue to travel down the road in my Eleganza SE as long as I can keep
it roadworthy. I appreciate many of the personal responses I have
received to date they have been very helpful in the refurbishment
process of my coach.
To reiterate my previous question. Does anyone have the original maximum
RPM torque and HP specifications for the 1974 455? Thanks for your
comments in advance.

Dear Steves
I am fed up with all of this. I have bought all the back issues of
everything.
I have even read them all. I am going to tell you what I think. The fear
factor
is so high here I cant believe most of you still have our ladies. Darn a
final
drive is a final drive----how big is the hole for the bearing--how big
is the
shaft?
How has it changed? Seems like lots of people are driving them. I dont
like
the
fear game-----I know how to play it well. This is what the net does so
well
for
us. It lets us sort it all out for our selves. I dont know if the teeth
on a
3.7 drive
are too small. Cant tell you they are big enough on a 3.42----can tell
you
that
it also was for a car not a motorhome. Sure would like some help here. I
for
one am sick and tired of running from my fears with my lady. It is a GMC
product not something different. Its a 455 with a heavy load---not a
mystical
problem. Heck I am out of here.
Take Care
