GMC Fan Clutch

I finally replace my clutch today..
of the only 3 nuts holding it on, one of those was loose...
guess it was time..

The old one, I could hardy turn it by hand, around a 1/2" maybe accompanied
by a slight grinding sound..I guess it was time again...

Will road test it tomorrow

Replaced mine on Friday with the Hayden 2797. My old one was pretty much
free spinning. The Hayden had some resistance when I tried to spin it.

I can hear the Hayden, never remember hearing the old one, It's not too loud
but I know it is there. It sure does move a lot more air when engaged.

I have a cheap digital thermometer with the sensor mounted on the underside
of the engine hatch. Prior to the new fan clutch I had seen temps of
150-160F. I have only driven with the new fan clutch about 30 miles or so
but the highest temp recorded so far was 125F.

I also installed the Napa temp sending unit, the gauge now gets pegged
shortly after I crank the engine up? Have to figure that one out yet.

When you put the new temp sending unit did you put teflon tape or a
thread sealer on the threads?? If you did that may be your problem.
Should be installed with no sealer or tape. Causes a poor ground with
the junk on the threads.

Now I know how quiet a GMC can be...
Scary, hearing the fan noise go away and being able to hear my wife talk...
now I dont have an excuse, but at least driving is now a joy.
