I'm in need of a drivers side 455 exhaust manifold ASAP. Any ideas on
where, how much, and from what engine?

Thanks, John '76 Palm Beach

I used one from a Toronado for years, until I got headers. It fits the
engine fine, however, it does point at a slightly different angle that the
original coach manifold. A minor adjustment in the tailpipe was necessary.
I still have mine but shipping would exceed your local junk yard price
(probably $15-25). New ones for the GMC last I knew were about $150 each
and available.

>From my experience so far the toronado manifolds are NOT the same as on the
coach. They not only are at a different angle to the cylinders (not a
problem) but do not have reinforcing ribs along their length. the ribs help
to stop the warping of the exhaust manifold.

If yours are not cracked why not just get them resurfaced?

John,

This thread has been around a couple of times before so when you get some
time it would be worth your while to dig back into the archives.

There are two schools of thought. One group believes headers are the only
way to go while the other stays with the stock manifolds. The headers
apparently increase horsepower somewhat over the stock manifolds. I'm in
the keep it stock, cheap, and reliable set. With my coach I have the stock
part down pat but haven't yet achieved the cheap and reliable part. Mine has
Toronado issue so I don't know if the stock RV part is different.

Last year I replaced the manifold gaskets without having the manifolds
refaced and they quickly started leaking again and developed a crack in the
passenger side. I called several salvage yards before I found someone who
knew what I needed then I found someone who knew. The used manifold cost
forty dollars and the mill work was another forty dollars for each side.
I've gone about 4 thousand miles with no new leaks.

If you can't find a replacement locally there were a couple of guys on the
net who had converted to headers and had their manifolds available.

Enjoy

Dick
