Roger, I just finished installing new manifolds with Mr. Gasket
Copperseal exhaust gaskets. They are .043 solid copper with embossed
O-ring design that looks almost like some of the old O rings on some of
the 50's rods I played with. I don't have enough miles on them yet to
give any long term results but, they cured a pitted block from a PO
cracked manifold.

Arch,
While looking at your pics, a thought came to me. Dangerous, I know.
With
the problems with exhaust manifolds on this engine, I remembered that
during
my old hot rodding days, the engine in my '52 Chevy had inserts between
the
heads and exhaust manifold. Thin metal tubes, similar to napkin rings.
Seems this would work to help keep from blowing gaskets or even if used
without gaskets to help prevent potential leaks.

Any thoughts, ideas, on this?

Roger

Steve,
What's your source for the copper manifold gaskets?
Thanks.

Bob,
I ordered mine locally and it took a week to get them. $50 for MR. Gasket
P/N 7170. Jegs (800-345-4545) lists the same for $33.99 (P/N 720-7170). HTH.

Nate '75GB (20 degrees and white) Omaha

PS. Add a dab of red hi temp RTV at the center top and bottom at the web of
center two ports. My heads have a slightly recesed web between them and the
gasket leaks a bit there. I'll catch that this spring. Sure helped quite 99%
of my leaks though! Not hard to put it either (atleast mine weren't). Best
of luck.
