The GMC TZE was available for customization to be used in a commercial environment

I don't recall ever seeing one in action

Keep hanging around the forums, and you'll see a good number of Transmodes that folks have. I've always found them interesting. They're often quite unique, and come with interesting stories. One of the common usages I've seen is as a mobile news broadcasting "van". Airport shuttles were common as well, and I think blood banks. I believe there is a special one that was used to move GM executives around for certain events that had huge windows in the side for showcasing concepts/models driving by, and another that was famous for transporting NASA personnel. Some get turned into food trucks these days.

The Hunter House is a old-time hamburger joint in Birmingham, MI. They have a GMC food truck. I'm not sure if it started out life as a TransMode or a motorhome. The restaurant itself is just a few miles down Woodward Ave from the site where our motorhomes were built.

Someone once told me about the TransMode with the big windows used for transporting GM execs. It was at the GM Proving Grounds in Milford, MI. It ran for many years and was something of a mascot at the Proving Grounds.
I don't know the details of its demise but apparently it's been gone for a long time.

Some GM people didn't like the Proving Grounds transporter. They saw it as an emblem of frivolousness and failure because GM supposedly never turned a profit on the motorhome line. As Bob Lutz taught us, in the battle of "Bean Counters Vs. Car Guys", the bean counters always win.
