Ted,
I guess a lot depends on the material that you're
using for the headliner. I used this stuff that is fuzzy
and thick and is seen on many new SOB motorhomes.
I bought it from Guske Sales (GMC owners) here in Michigan.
Jim Bounds suggested that I use "Landau Top & Trim
Adhesive" by Weldwood and it only comes in 5 gallon buckets.
He uses an airless sprayer and said it would take almost 5
gallons to do a coach. I couldn't find any of that stuff so I
got some stuff called "HYBOND Spray Grade Contact Adhesive".
Well that stuff didn't work at all. It just dribbled out of the
sprayer. Now I have 5 gallons of glue that I will never use
and can't return. That was $50 shot!
I was running out of time to get the headliner up so I used
what 2 other GMC owners used. Spray cans of Super Trim
Adhesive #08090. Its available from NAPA stores and is pretty
expensive. About $10 a can and I think I used 9
cans. It worked very well for me. So about $90 well spent.
The material that John Wright has suggested is probably very
good to use. I don't know if you spray it on or you can brush
it on. That's about $90 and if you can find it will work.
I glued my headliner on to 1/8" sheets of laun plywood. Or
you can use 1/8" paneling. I used the old headliner for a pattern.
That worked for me.
The material I used for the headliner is porous. That is you can
spray too much of the glue on and it will bleed through. That
took some practice on scraps before I got that right.
I probably said more then you wanted to know about what I did.
But this is what I did and what happened to me.
Good luck
