I also had leaks from the tops of my tanks (as well as other locations) and
found it to be coming from the 'sending unit' seal that fits betweeen the
tank and the sending unit. The seal is a large (4 inch or so) o-ring that
is held in place by a less-than-precise collar that turns under 3 tabs and
puts pressure on the sending unit. My o-rings had dryed up and leaked..
