Here is the news story about MTBE causing the shut down of 1/3 of
Dallas' water supply. That's right - one third - and yet the story is
hidden in the paper.

You can thank the EPA for mandating state's usage of reformulated
fuels. That agency operates with total autonomy so you can bet that
when THEY screw up THEY HOLD THEMSELVES ABOVE ACCOUNTABILITY. The EPA
has known about the wide range of problems caused by MTB's in gasoline
for over three years. It's not just the water supply either that has
suffered from this additive. Health problems suffered by mechanics,
vehicle fires caused by fuel line and gasket softening, hundreds of
locally owned service stations driven out of business and the
ridiculousness of us having to pay an additional 5 cents per gallon to
do this to ourselves. All this and it's still present in our gasoline!
Have faith in the system though. I'm sure as soon as she finishes
protecting us consumers from the ilks of Bill Gates she'll go after the
EPA.
(I just gotta do this once in a while. I try to stop but my fingers
have little minds of their own. Sorry.)
