While I was out at the junk yard yesterday, I noticed that these canisters
are on most of the GM cars and trucks of the same and a lil later time
frame. They'd probably nearly give it to you.

Good Luck

Lanier, I'd think it would be an easy substituion. I stumble through a lot
of wrecking yards; if you'll give me a description, I'll look for one. The
yards I frequent tend to have older stuff.

Tell me the size of the unit and how many ports it has on top and how they
are labeled...I'd be surprised if I can't spot one pretty quick.

This sounds like the same can that GM's been using forever. Some of them had
a couple more ports and a vacumn operated valve made on top, but this oneis
the simple version.

They all do the same thing....there's a charcoal filter inside that absorbs
fuel vapors from the tank so that they aren't vented to the atmosphere, then
when the engine is running the vacumn from the manifold sucks those same
vapors from the filter and burns them.

I'll be happy to look for one while I'm piddling in wrecking yards, but I'd
be surprised if you can't find a dozen in the first fifteen minutes you go
to a local yard. My 90 model Chevrolet pickup has what sounds like the
identical can. I'd go look at my wife's 96 chevrolet but she's gone to visit
her sister today. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding one though.
All it has to do is mount the same.

Lanier,

I bought one in the junk yard. Came off an Olds station wagon circa
1974 with a 455. The owner of the junk yard referred to it as a "coffee
can" I paid $5 for it. It was just behind the front right headlight.
Removed one strut and had at it. 1/4" drive socket with extension would
be helpful. All I had was a crescent wrench and a pair of pliers.

I am looking for the vapor fuel separator by our rear left wheels. I
had gas pouring out of the area where my dual canisters are. Emery, the
wizard, diagnosis a faulty separator. Visited Emery yesterday and
other than some missent parts he is rolling along on the rear disc brake
conversion.

California equiped GMCs of earlier years also had 2 canisters.
