Hi Dave!,
Been following fuel cell development real closely as a replacement for the
Onan. I looked into semi-permeable membrane fuel cells that run on propane
(gasoline ones are 10 years away). One about the size and power (7kw) of
the Onan is in test know. I tried to obtain a pre-production model to
experiment with, but the company, a subsidary of Detroit Edison, is not
interested in using their fuel cell as a motorhome gen-set. Seems like a
lot of potential benefits however, at least enough to keep a close watch on
all fuel cell developments (they are several times more efficient than the
Onan, quiet, and are designed to run continuously for 15 years w/o
breakdown.
But, I now think it will be farther in the future than 2002 before one can
be adapted to the GM. Please keep me informed if you find out more on this
and I'll do the same. walter bright, 76 GB.
