It's funny, but many times to avoid the standard GM 1500 (read van
conversion chassis) misconception with the people at parts houses. We would
often ask specifically for Olds/Toronado parts, if we could. Most of the
drive train parts are stock Olds/Toro, of the previous model year. For
example the 77 Birchhaven had a 76 model year engine and drivetrain. I
don't know how many times I had to patiently tell the "expert" that the
parts they were trying to sell me were not the ones I needed.
As to your question, If memory serves the bearings and seals were stock
Olds/Toro. I think the Ball joints and tie rod ends were specific the GMC
MH chassis. I can't remember, We rebuilt that front end in 93. I would
expect that any mechanic familiar with Olds/Toro front ends should have no
trouble with a GMC-MH.
For the record I'm the same guy that wrote the original Post that "Arch"
added on to.
That front end was designed well before the push to make things lighter and
"cheaper", you can read more prone to failure.
I don't remember who it was, but someone wrote that the results of a survey
on this list, indicated 1 major front end failure among approximately 500
responses, make that 2 including mine.
