Front wheel bearings

Hi Folks
One of my main concerns for my future coach is the front wheel bearings. I've read a lot of posts and understand they are a special design and require
a special tool and it's preferred the mechanic doing the work have experience with GMC MH. I also understand there is a one ton upgrade and a
greasable upgrade. I would be leaning towards greasable upgrade. This is more than likely something I would have someone else repair/replace/repack.
I'd like to know your recommendation of who you'd have do yours east of the MS. I don't mean to embarrass or cause a ruckus so if you prefer feel free
to PM me or respond to my email mtb8114 at G mail dot com.

East of the Mississippi covers a whole lot of ground. There are people in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other places
It would help a lot if you would let us know where you live.

I'm thinking Lewisburg, MS? South of Memphis. That'd make Orlando about
the closest since Southland's outta the picture.

Yes Lewisburg MS, just south but not south enough from Memphis. I was looking for who you individually thought would be the top for this job. Several recommendations are fine. Reality is there are very few of these coaches near by so traveling to OH, Penn, GA, FL, etc. is not really an issue.

I think they're done. Let me know what they say.

Mine are recently done before I got the coach. Were I doing front bearings, unless the hub and knuckle look pristine, they go in a crate to Dave
Lenzi for rebuild. I haven't checked, but I bet I could send them as four Greyhound Package Express shipments. Used to be cheapest way if you can
work the logistics.

Are you looking for a specific GMC? What state are you in? I have a GMC that I bought to rebuild for our daughter. At plan B of selling it now. It's totally refurbished. The people here know all about what I've done to it. You can ask them about it for reference. I can put the greaseable bearings in it. As that's the only bigger thing that I didn't get done prior to winter setting in. Plus a few cosmetic items. A side thought has been to keep it. To use as a tow truck in the Summer. To pull my Yenko's to track events. And keep the miles down on the 78 that I built for Linda. That's in a powered wheelchair. As I'd trust it to go anywhere. Bob Dunahugh

The inside bore on the original knuckles is turned with a tool, not ground.
Microscopic view of the surface almost resembles hills and valleys. When
the outer surfaces of the tapered roller bearings wear off the microscopic
hills, the bearings move in the bores and wear the knuckles. The effective
repair is to plasma spray the surface, and centerless grind the bores back
to specific size. Then you have a very durable, long lasting surface. Add a
grease fitting to this and you have a better than new system. It will last
a very, very, long time. Dave Lenzi does a bang up job of this. There are
other options available, costs vary.

Kelvin Dietz in Eugene, Oregon just rebuilt his hubs and knuckles using
Lenzi Knuckles and shipping. He purchased his bearings and seals locally
and on rock auto. I replaced his bearings and installed the hubs onto the
knuckles. He might have a pretty good idea of the costs involved.

Harry/David,

From my bill in March 2015

Rebuild Knuckles 210 each
Drill for grease 30 each
Drill bearing spacers for grease 30 each

He did turn the disks to true to the hubs but did not have to do anything to the hubs proper.
That this mattered because the pulse that was in the brakes disappeared.

He did pick up the original center of the knuckle well enough so I did not have to adjust the alignment on the left and had to correct about an half a
degree on the right.

FedEx shipping if I remember was $54

Dave has spare knuckles on hand and shipped the units out to me and than I
returned worn knuckles in his cate.
