Paul,
Alex Sirum has starter making a replacement fiberglass grill and
should have some in stock by now. I too want to replace my plastic
grill and headlight covers as both are cracked and repaired in too
many places. Alex also has the fiberglass square headlight kits. Call
Jeff 941-763-1121.
He has info on it at his site www.gmcmh.com about both items. I think
that the grill was well under $300 and the complete square light kit
was $215 or so.
I would think that fiberglass should be stronger and much less likely
to crack. I have noticed that fit on the headlight covers seem to vary
from coach to coach as the "old girls" all seem to be a little
different. You can also grind the fiberglass to help with fit due to
thickness, while the plastic is too thin to grind much. I still have
the plastic headlight covers and even they don't fit perfect and they
are the GMC originals. Fiberglass is also much easier to repair after
your next owl experience.
>Now all I have to do is obtain a new grill. As the original grill is
>made of plastic, it is susceptible to cracking, particularly in the
area
>where the attachment studs thread into the back side.
>
>There are replacement fiberglass grills available from some of the
>established GMC Motorhome service merchants. I know of one
individual
>who obtained a fiberglass one from Clasco when they were in business
and
>sent it back because it didn't fit right.
