Hi all,
Just back from our short trip to Ca. from AZ. (getting
grandkids(Pumpkin&Rose-bud nicknames) for a month before going back to drop
them off and again afew more trips to watch my Raiders win a superbowl, hope
our old baby runs the same way throughout the year less tire problem.1300mi.
rd trip, Lots of time, got into forced retirement @ 49 with no money) Saw a
lighter colored coach passing rest stop on I-5 on 6-25-99 did not make eye
contact as we saw on last minute,we were headed to northern Ca.and the other
coach was going south?
Anyway our Pumpkin-Rose ran great!!except for Lt.. Ft. bogie tire
separation and "T" removal and some minor damage to wheel well area, got two
Bridgestone V-steel E-rated to R&R PowerKings? (previous owner could only
get in crunch) tires looked in very good shape and pressures set at 80psi
for Bridgestone's and 65 for stated powerkings before trip, The Bridgestone
tires we got(only two the town had) if read correctly had a date of 77 other
tire no DOT code guess there older? But new should it still be OK for 5yrs?
.Anyone know where I can get another "T" cheap first or otherwise? Our
travel consist of 118 dry to 60 wet degs.. With high winds on top of
mountains. Engine temps ran just above 1/4 mark (avg.) to/but just below
half well maybe on half at top of hills between 50-70mph (OEM gauge) Trans
at 180-240? again at top of hill, avg. 190deg.. Avg. speed 60-70mph with a
high of 88 and climbing just before tire mishap, which has made me a true
believer of a respectable retired travel speed of 55-65. Avg. MPG just under
9mpg. As I was driving up hill with hi hi winds thought man the wind sure
shakes this GMC,(first RV) But as I came up on a newer bus looking S.O.B.
that could not keep coach as straight as mine, I now love to drive my
new/old
73 Pumpkin-Rose.
The tranny looks to have a 3 tube cooler in front of Rad. and if I saw
correctly eng. oil from filter to old rad. tranny cooler. any tips to
improve
engine& tranny temps? Thanks and keep on GMCing.

I put two nine inch electric fans on my radiator with a switch on the
dash. When the tempture goes up, on go the fans. I have a 78 Rayale.
The fan also help with the starting after a hot drive. I normally
leave them on when I get gas, or go for lunch. They also help keep the
heat build up from coming inside. Note: If you leave your lights on
and the two fans for an hour, you will not be able to start your GMC!!

Question: "What is the correct operating tempture? Mine reads around
200 to 220. I have a manual tempture gage, not electricity, because the
gage never moves off of low tempture.

Hi Bill and thanks for info. Did the electric give more/added cooling vers.
clutch fan when on road? I'm not sure what is normal for tranny temps was
told by Golby's that my tranny temps were OK 190/230 avg. 200 in 118deg
outside temps at 60-70MPH. I have a elect gauge that was in the coach when
bought, there's a piece broke off in gauge but does not interfere with
pointer (but why is it broke has it been beat on?) so not sure if correct I
am going to change. I also have a tranny 3-tube cooler infront of rad. and
eng. Oil going to old tranny Rad. cooler, looking to upgrade with more info
and time and money ofcource
