I have been now using FreeI for a few months and have had very good
experience with it to date - until 3 days ago.
Three days ago they decided to install a new mail service in NM and
while I could receive my mail and the GMCnet mail, I haven't been
able to send anything for the last three days. Apparently they have
been having a problem cutting in the new program.
I called them and they said I'd just have to be patient until they
got the new system up, but I just discovered on their site a message
that said that users wouldn't loose any mail and that you could go to
OLDMAIL.NM.FREEI.NET to retrieve your old mail. On a hunch, I
changed my signon from mail.nm.freei.net to oldmail.nm.freei.net and
found that I could now send all my queued up mail using their
original system. If any of you are using freei.net in NM you can do
the same thing.
In defence of Freei, they have a toll free line in Santa Fe and its
never been busy, I've never been dropped during a session and it is
much, much faster than the AOL system that I was paying $20 per month
for. AOL used to constantly drop me and then would always give this
insulting message "you have been disconnected, perhaps someone on
your line picked up an extension". I can now use the $240 per year
to buy more goodies for my GMC.
If you use the Freei client program you'll be annoyed by the large ad
banner that goes across the full width of the screen. I almost quit
their service because of this but then I figured out how to use their
service without the ads. If anyone wants info on that send me a
private e-mail.
Since I was traveling for 10 days and then was off line for 3 days, I
will probably be sending a few replies to one to two week old GMCnet
e-mails if no one else has sent answers yet.
