HI, Does anyone have an opinion on the Jacobs Ignition? Are their claims
of
10HP gain and 1 MPG gain really true?.
Jerry, Cad. Powered Edgemonte Memphis

Jerry,
To quote someone else on this net; There ain't no free lunch! I'm
sure Jacobs has dyno tests to back up their claims of 10 additional HP,
but I would bet Dave's credit cards it comes in somewhere around 7,000
rpm. Just think of what you'd have if you bought all those pieces
that guarantee an additional 2%, 10%, 10 HP, etc, etc, etc. Heck, you'd
have at least 5,000 horsepower....if you believed the claims, that is.
In my opinion I think all you'd have is an empty checkbook.
Keep what you've got in good working order & you'll have a coach that
serves you well.
Just blathering,
Steve

Larry,
Excuse my Lack of knowledge, but what is a Dunn Transmission?

Nothing I have done got me more power than the new Dunn tranny......NOTHING!
Not the Jacobs, not the 3.42, not the alcoas, not the JATO pod......nuttin'.
Probably agree with the advice to invest money elsewhere. Larry in MO, PB75

Bob, my mistake. Dunn Transmission advertises in GMCMM . They are in
memphis,
which is only 6 hours from me through the Arkansas hills. He was great to
work with. Not big on paperwork, but hey, neither am I. I would rather have
a
good mechanical unit than a piece of paper anyway. Anyway, my problem, which
I shared way too often with the victims on this 'net, was ---no power to
pull
away from a standing stop, with a slight grade. Going down the highway, and
even climbing hills "on the fly" was no problem. It took a disaster at the
Crazy Horse monument entry road to turn me towards the dark side, that it
might be my tranny. After posting the episode on this net, a kind soul
directed me to a "all you wanted to know about torque converters" web site,
which I still have bookmarked. After all my expences, that was what I
needed.
GMC: Torque
converters
.....There, I posted it again. Larry in MO, PB75

Cap,
Mine does it just like yours and it has a standard 455, original tranny and
final drive.

This is is a little off the topic but not much. I have had my coach
for only a while. I had read somewhere that they were underpowered
so I was suprised when it would spin the tires on flat dry pavement
from a stop. Is this stock or did the PO do something to the engine.

and the like?

Even my old 455ci with 302,312 miles on it will spin on dry if I try hard
enough but it didn't get to that venerable old age by doing that more
than once.

Of course one should remember that most of the weight is on the back, in
most of the GMCs.

Cap I don't think I have your GMC in the Registry. Is that a possibility?
Have you been holding out on me?

Dick Patterson did a seminar in Rayne on Ignition System Maintenance & said,
in essence, "an ignition system can not add HP, but it can take away HP."
This means if it is not tuned right, it will reduce performance. If tuned
right, it will deliver the original performance---changing it will not
improve performance. If we were running high RPM, high performance engines,
magneto ignition might have an influence on performance, but this is not the
case with GMCs.
