Gene,
So this is where the next Spring's GMCMI rally will be?

You sure can't beat the price for camping and showers.

If I were traveling alne and had the time I'd go there. I
don't think my wife would care for it however.

Yep my wife says the same thing.

I may be making a bachelor trip ;>)

Dean,
That about the cheapest additional rating I could get. Sure would be
a lot cheaper then a type rating in a B747. That would give me a good
excuse to drive out there in the GMC. I could stay at Slab City with all
the other GMC's while I get the rating.

Now all I would have to do is figure out how how to add floats
to our 182 RG.

Dean,
Just be careful when you retract those floats.

Richard, they also give a mult-Sea rating at Laughlin, just a short drive up
the road. That's one I don't have. We'll get it together and I'll find out
from you how to add floats to my 182RG. Dean

Or like the guy here landing on the Ohio and the guy landing in FLA
on floats that lowered the wheels WHILE landing on water.

Along that line, has anyone taken thier GMC on one of the barge float
travels ?

Sounds like fun, but there would be lots of us alone - our mates would
be at the motel 6 or the sheraten.

I'm looking at it right now. No problem. Even went to China and back.
Great site. Didn't know of it before.

Except that the places that I wanted to look at such as my house and my
cottage
didn't completely show up. I guess you you get what you pay for.

Dean,
That sounds good. I need the MES to compliment the MEL rating on
my CFI certificate.

The floats shouldn't be a problem as long as I don't retract the gear.
I can just imagine how the performance would degrade with all that
stuff hanging out. One time I had to fly our RG back from Florida
with the gear down because of a hydraulic problem and that really
slowed us down. It added about 3 hours to what should have been a 7
hour flight.

All this talk has me thinking the GMC is a pretty cost effective way
to travel as long as time isn't a major consideration. Plus if the weather
gets bad you can stop and grab a bite and a nap. Hard to do in the
plane at 12,000 feet.

Tom,
That's one of my favorite things about our GMC too. Camping
in cold weather. We were also very comfortable in ours during a
early Winter snow storm. It was blowing and drifting outside,
but inside we were as snug as a bug in a rug.

The only cold weather problem that I have experienced was
when it was in the single digits and the main water line from
the water tank froze. It was kind of inconvenient that we
didn't have any water available. We could not make coffee, wash
up or really use the toilet. I'm told that the water line lays
right on an aluminum frame member and is therefore very
susceptible to cold. I will correct that this season.

Now we need to start getting prepared for hot weather. I like
the coach during those times as well.
