Forum Problem

Eugene,

I, and several others, have been having a problem on the GMCNet:
Frequently answers appear pertaining to messages which I have never seen.
The latest incident apparently revealed the problem: Members of your Forum
who have not joined the GMCNet. The individual in this incident had
apparently been a member of the Forum since 2018, but was not on the
GMCNet. After Billy Massey added him the the GMCNet, everything seems to
be OK.

In reviewing the instructions on the Forum, the only mention I see of
GMCNet is in the introduction where the Forum is identified as a mirror of
GMCNet. Therefore, I suspect there are a lot of "newbies" who have never
joined GMCNet, leaving many of us email-only members scratching our heads.
Can you please at least add a mention in the instructions that everyone
should join GMCNet as a prerequisite to Forum membership?

Thanks from all us old fogies on the mailing list,

Ken "GMCLister since '98" Henderson

Ken, this is why us Truly Suave GMCers eschew email and use the Forum. (Actually, I like the layout a bit better)

Johnny,

I tried the Forum as soon as Eugene set it up, and periodically ever
since. Don't suit me a-tall.

I agree with Ken. Add me to the old fogeys list as I was very happy with the email list.

I did not mean to imply that we delete any part of the GMCnet or the FORUM
or for that matter, any and all of the chat rooms that have sprung up. They
all have their places, particularly if you enjoy grand children pictures,
recipes for road food, etc. There is a place and an appropriate time for
those, also.
But, when people need factual, accurate answers to some problem that
they are having, it is good to be able to rely on the GMCnet for that. All
I'm saying.

I have long been trying to determine if I'm a Geezer, Coot or Codger, old being a foregone conclusion.
But this forum is far and away the best source of hard info, informed opinion, and cautionary tales regarding the GMC.
I salute each and every one of you, particularly the senior members.
Even as a 95% lurker, most of my knowledge comes from this forum and I am very grateful.

Ken, the difference in Suave and Truly Suave is, we pour better whiskey at Sevenses. When it's working right, everything appears on the list and the
forum. Take your pick. (It looks as if the powers that be are in the process of fixing the trouble)

Johnny,

I guess that really does leave me the totally un-suave son of super-suave.
You see, I had a father who poured enough during his lifetime to last me
for all of mine! :-)

My first wife and I had an employee who had adult children. Her son, owns a
landscape design and maintenance business, and was quite the drinker in his
youth. His name is Steve. He was in our employees yard, working on her fish
pond and adjacent landscape on a hot summer day and She took him a cold
beer, which he refused, which shocked her. She queried him as to why he
refused the icy cold beverage.
He explained as follows.
"God only allows you so many beers to consume during you entire life. It's
up to you whether you spread the consumption over a lifetime, or consume
them all before your 30th birthday." He stated that's what he had done, so
he quit drinking them.
That is what he did. Me, I just spread them out, interspersed with
whiskey. In my past, I drank really cheap stuff. Now, I stress quality
rather than quantity. Moderation is where it is at for me these days. The
last time I was totally blitzed, I had a hangover that lasted 3 days. The
first day, I was afraid I might die. The second day, I was afraid I might
live, the third day convinced me that what I did to myself was stupid, and
I resolved to never going to do that to myself, again. And so far, I
haven't.

Ken, you rate Truly Suave on a knowledge and support of GMCs, Hupy is the same, regardless the type/amount of booze you favor :)
Lemme point out, I come from a long and somewhat distinguished line of drunks, we average two a generation. To be blunt, if they hadn't invented
marijuana when I was in college my generation would have had another. At this point, I can have one (1) drink or beer before my blood sugar gets out
of hand. Since it's only one, it might as well be a good one.
I note, at all the GMC functions I have attended, I have yet to run upon someone drunk, one of the things which makes our gatherings pleasant in my
opinion. I suspect we all learnt better some while back.
