Has anyone considered that old evaporators & heater cores get plugged up
with mold over time and restrict even the finest blower motor. That would be
one of my checks. I have also seen blower motors wired backwards, so they
run the wrong way. Just a puff of breeze and normal noise.

Subject: GMC: Follow up to Fan Blower Motor Discussion
Will try to address the question about the AutoZone fan blower motor I
recommended. I don't have any experience with other GMC units. I have
wanted
one off & on since 1975, but I just bought my first one, a '77 model, last
April. There is plenty of air coming out of my '77 vent A/C system. The
reason I replaced my blower motor was because of a bearing
noise--squeeking/scratching. The new blower motor does not blow any better
or
any worse than the old one--just a lot quieter.
It blows fine in the first three positions, and then after the 3 to 5 second
delay it comes on strong in the MAX position.
I am somewhat confused from these discussions. Seems there is a great
difference in the amount of air coming from the a/c vent systems as
discussed
in this group over the past few months. If I can paraphrase and
recount--seems the 77-78 models have had revisions made to the ducting/air
flow system due to complaints about amount of air coming out of the 73-76
vent
systems. Therefore, I believe my 77 is one that has had the ducting/air
flow
redesigned and blows plenty of air. Arch-yours is a 76; and therefore, may
not have the redesigned air flow system. That may be one reason for not
much
air. If it is a ducting or air flow design problem, I don't believe this
fan
motor I suggested will solve it. It may be a good, cheap way of eliminating
that part of the puzzle, since the fan works strong in my unit. Maybe it
will
add to the air flow amount in your coach, and give you the chance to attack
some of the other puzzle pieces that others might suggest.
>Paul: I would like to ask a few questions. Does this fan really put out
air
or just sort of? The fan on mine did not put out enough to blow out
a match. Somebody said I needed a new relay. Did that. Now it made
a little more noise but did not put out much air. Somebody said I needed
to replace the seals in the heater box. Did that. Lots of nasty crumbling
foam went away. Still not what I would call enough air to be an AC. I want
something that will mess up my hair. Not tickle my nose hair. Can you tell
me if your AC vents will take an ash of a cig? If you can then I will go
for
this motor.

Yes, my vent A/C system will blow an ash off a cig. If one is not careful,
it
will remove the cig entirely.
