FMCA Tire Program a good deal?

Recently I purchased 2 tires. My tire of choice these days is the BFGoodrich Commercial T/A tire. They are available locally for about $156 not
including installation and tire disposal.

Since many here love the FMCA tire program, I thought I would take a look.

I logged in and entered the info for light truck, clicked on LT225/75R/16 and was presented with a list of 4 BFGoodrich and 2 Michelin tires. The list
didn't really show "Commercial T/A". I had to Google the MSPN numbers to find the "BFGOODRICH LT225/75R16115R COMMTAAS2LREGO" which seems to be
"Commercial T/A" tire. The price shown is $166.89 which is over $10/tire more than what I can get from the local tire dealers. If I were to spend
more to get these "deals" I assume that I would have to find someone to install them etc.

What am I missing here? Does not seem like a good deal to me.

By the way, I emailed FMCA about this (high price and difficulty in the interpretation of the listing) on 2 different occasions and never heard back.

The last tires I bought for the GMC were Bridgestone that I got at Costco they were at one of their ongoing tire deals they are nice tires A year ago
I bought 6 22.5 " tires for a large vehicle they were more then $200 each. Locally everyone wanted too much. I bought them one line from a place in
Chicago free delivery no state tax. I saved a lot of cash. If you go this route make sure you call and verify dot # or you will likely get old tires.
Some will give you the tire age some will not. I had no trouble finding a place to install them.

I installed Dextro (?) LT tires from Wal-Mart on my GMC. After 7 years, still in good shape. Current price $104 installed. However, they would not
install them on the GMC. I had to remove and re-install the wheels. They did put them on the rims. Not a big deal.
I like the fact that all 4400 Wal-Marts will honor without question their warranty. Travelling across country reduces my worry factor.
The tire is also in stock, no ordering and waiting.

The FMCA 'deal' isn't so much anymore I'm afraid. It may be that the organization is skimming more than they used too?? but the prices can probably be
beat with a bit of research. Just put a pair of tires on the front of the bus (315/80/22.5) in sales tax friendly Oregon-$1750 for the pair
installed. That hurt....

One reason I passed on the GM bus conversion. Needed six tires. Then, like my GMC, I'd get to find out what it needed. BTW did you finish the
Corvette yet? Pics?

Sorry Johnny, not yet. Always seem to be other 'projects' in the works. Did a GMC for our daughter, almost completely redid a 1990 VW Cabriolet for a
towd then changed up and bought a fixer Mini we now tow. Not to mention the new Duramax/Allison pusher GMC project I'm in the early stages of
building. Some day I hope, Lord willing.

Diesel pusher GMC? Tell me more. I can see several ways that might be done, but I've no idea the weight and its distribution, what you'd lose in
space in back and/or gain up front. What you do is, one day a week,or a half day is 'Corvette day'. No more, no less. Scare you how quickly it gets
done without taking away from the other projects. (Easy for me to say)

And there's just two rides I'd consider in place of the Soul for a toad, a Mini Moke and/or a VW Thing. The few out there are way beyond my reach.

That's a great idea Johnny, half a day a week.
We just picked up another project-a 12x30 office trailer I'm converting into a kitchen/laundry/bathroom/eating area for our Quartzsite property. Hope
to make it a kind of common area for visitors. We have an acre, graveled with city water and sewer and 3 200 amp meters. Hope to have a GMC get
together some day.
As for the GMC, 2007 LBZ, 6 sp Allison in the rear under a center queen bed, drive shaft forward to a 9 3/4" Ford IRS flipped (Navigator, Expedition
IRS rear). Front radiators(liquid to air inter cooler ,as in late Ford diesel, radiator up front) with 5kw Kubota diesel genset, fuel tank and
batteries up front. Water and holding tanks as far forward as possible. With available macerator toilets tank location is anywhere there's space.
Moving 400lbs of Onan and 40 gallons of water and waste tanks from the rear makes balance within 300-400 lbs.
Still in the deep planning stages, looking for a supplier for frame rail-way more difficult than you'd think.
As for keeping moving Mike, 13 Corvairs should really keep you busy :d

Hal S.:
Tires, oil, and water (oh no - no water) and wash jobs alone are a challenge - let alone dealing w/ a GMC or 3.
But I love it, so do it while I can!!!

Hal, does this lose the rear axle, or drive it and have the tag in front? Or drive the front (Middle actually) and leave the rear bogies? (Wish you
were closer, I'd love to watch and hand tools for that) Note - anybody who stands on the StClair's patio and looks out understands why they live
there. It ain't the Appalachians but it ain't bad!

Johnny,
Rear axles stay where they are, still FWD using the 9 3/4" Ford IRS center section(flipped). Probably use a 3 piece drive shaft running through the
cross members.
Looked at driving the center axle but the suspension would really intrude into the living area besides being quite a unique/difficult frame
modification. The motor/trans would cantilever behind requiring a bit of engineering. The front drive looks to be the best bet.
