Florida RV park suggestions

We are planning a RV trip to Florida in May. We are probably going to start off in Destin, but not finalized yet.
Any recommendations for any hidden gem Rv parks in Florida? Or must try restaurants? Or must see sights? We sorta gravitate towards water, and
uniqueness. And not afraid to get off the beaten path.
Would prefer full hookups, but not a absolute must. We will have 3 weeks to spent there, so no part of Florida would be too far.
Any recommendations or suggestions?

Jen and I spent a fair amount of time in Florida at the beginning of our trip. The panhandle was one of our favorite places. We were there to close to the aftermath of the hurricane that a lot of southern Florida wasn’t ready for tourists yet. The panhandle is littered with beaches filled with “sugar sand”. Panama City is very touristy but has a lot to chose from. I think you’d really like Apalachicola, right on the water. There specialty is oysters and drinking. Small brewery in town. They do both very well.
Wakulla springs is a great stop on the way out of the panhandle. Take the boat tour it’s cheap and you can swim with manatees. Also they shot the creature from the Black lagoon here. Rainbow springs heading down the gulf side is probably our favorite spot. 72 degree spring fed river year round. You can rent canoes or kayaks and go up and down the river which is absolute must. Clear views to bottom of river no matter the depth its beautiful. Tarpon springs down to Clearwater beach is best for sunsets. Clearwater beach is really fun lots of food and bars and I’m pretty sure they all do sunset specials. Shephards at pier 60 has fantastic rum runners. Dunedin is a really cool small “retirement” city but don’t let that fool you. There’s usually some sort of music/art on going on and the people are great.
Myakka river state park is really pretty and has a great campground all though just water/electric. If you go across the state to the Atlantic side you can swing by the Sirums shop in Okeechobee. Really great people and free hook up sites if there’s nobody there already getting stuff worked on just call Norma and she’ll leave you a key to get in. We have loads more places we’ve been if you need anymore ideas let us know

Jim,
Quite the write up with lots of good info. You got me with oysters and breweries!! All those suggestions sound great. My neighbor likes St. joes, and
close to Apalachicola. We might bypass Destin and go to Apalachicola. Less touristy, more our style.
All good ideas, and please keep them coming.

If you're headed for The Mouse, Wekiwa Springs Styate Park in Apopka, or Lake Louisa State Park on the other side of town. I like wekiwa better, but
both are a cut above KOA for space and friendly people.

No problem sir. Just trying to pay it forward with all the suggestions you’ve given us. Not sure where you’re starting from but if you take route 98 east to west across the panhandle you can’t really go wrong with any beach stop.

Be sure and get Florida State Campground guide when you enter Florida. Silver Springs State Park is very nice. Second on Weikiva Springs. Big
Springs, west of I-75. Blackwater State Park, near Pensacola, is very nice also.One nice thing about most Florida campgrounds, with your GMC size, you
can fit in all of them.
You should also the Army Corps of Engineers Parks, reasonably priced, especially if you have one of the various passes.
Currently being windblown in Texas.

Probably not, I just spent the last month transportation those mini heathens to and fro KMCO. I can go another 11 months before seeing one again. But
I might have to stop nearby and say hi to Bubba Jim.

We have always enjoyed "Topsail Hill Preserve State Park " near Destin. We hope to return in 2019.

If you plan on heading to Key West and don't want to pay through the nose:

Not the most up-market RV Park we've stayed in but it was acceptable. There is a bus that stops at the corner of Suncrest Road and
Cross Street that will take you to downtown Key West. I believe the fare was around $1.00 each. Reasonable rates. Some shade.

Not far east of Destin is a Florida State Parks Campground called Top Sail.
It's a very nice park. It was originally a high end Motorhome only
RV Park and the state of florida bought it about 10 years ago and now
allows trailers.

It runs a shuttle to the beach which is about a mile from the park. The beach
is incredible. About 5 mile stretch of undeveloped beach. We have stayed there
many times and highly recommend it. It is a bit pricey but worth it.

From the beach you can typically see dolphins swimming in the surf.

I stayed at Arnett's Gulfside campground after the Dothan GMCMI. Small campground, pretty basic, but conveniently located, not too far from the
beach, adjacent to a state forest, has stables, offers riding lessons and gives a 50% discount on trail rides if you're staying in the campground. If
there are more than a couple of you the savings is substantial, and the rides are well worth it.

Seaside is a superb little planned community. It was the background in that Jim Carrey movie, The Truman Show. There's a restaurant there, Bud &
Alley's, that I visited after Dothan. I'd been there in the late 90's and there was no memory drift - the restaurant was very good then and still
is.

Observation:::: seems like most recommendations except for Robs for Key West, are in north Florida. Is south Florida not That much RV friendly?
