I just got off the phone with USAA. I asked how much it would add to my
insurance to have coverage on my GMC now that I have moved it to Florida.

USAA: “Ok, with zero miles and no comprehensive or collision and maximum
deductible, that changes your six month policy from $4200 to $5400.”

Me: “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?! Does that seem REMOTELY reasonable to you to
increase my bill by $200 a month for a vehicle that is not even being
driven??? There has to be some mistake.”

USAA: “That does seem a bit odd, but it’s what the computer says.”

Me: “I don’t think we can trust the computer here. That just doesn’t seem
reasonable, objectively, from a risk/reward standpoint. Do nothing to my
account while I investigate this further.”

They gotta be pushing the wrong buttons here. Having more vehicles does not
increase their risk one bit because I only drive one at a time. Can anybody
explain what might be going on?

All I can say is adding the GMC to our existing 3 car policy through
AARP/The Hartford cost $130 for a year. Total for all 4 vehicles is now
about $1,300.

We're in Oregon.

Hi, Robin.

Cost per YEAR for my 76 with Progressive subbed through USAA is $286! My house here in tornado alley and three vehicles (heavy hail zone) with USAA runs ~ $5,000 per year.

Something strange there. I have USAA for a couple of cars, but my coach is under State Farm. USAA has been handing off coaches and motorcycles to a
special phone number at Progressive. You might just call back again and start all over with a new quote.

Looks to me like it is $200/6months or $33.33 a month. Is that correct?

Florida is expensive. I pay several hundred dollars a month to insure two
vehicles with good insurance (100/300). Adding the RV took it from 4200$
every six months to $5400 every six months. That is from $700 a month to
$900 a month.

If somebody GAVE me a magic car that ran without gasoline and I just used
it to commute to and from work, the cost of insuring it would be higher
than the cost of putting gas in my paid for Subaru. It’s nuts.

I’m sure people living in Florida can speak on this better than me. I know several people that register and insure there cars out of state thru family and friends because of the outrageously high costs. Which seems crazy to me when there are large groups of people on fixed incomes.

The insurance costs for Autos varies greatly in FL. When I moved from Jax to Ft Lauderdale my insurance doubled. The joke at work was your welcome wagon gift to Fl was someone running into your car. Sure enough happened my second week.

I recently ran into a similar situation when State Farm tried to raise the price of my GMC's insurance into the stratosphere. Several years ago I
moved my car insurance to Geico so I could save 14% and State Farm didn't like that.

Currently I have 2 cars plus the GMC with Geico. 250k/500k/100k is my liability coverage and 500k uninsured motorist coverage. Collision coverage for
the GMC and the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan (I don't know why collision on the GMC, I will have to change that but for $41/6 months it's not a big deal).
Total bill is $1282 for 6 months. GMC is $234/6 months including the collision coverage that I didn't know I had.

I'm in the northeast part of the Orlando area, basically as far away from the Disney tourist area as I could get and still be in the Orlando metro.

You might get a quote from Geico. Like they say, 15 minutes could save you 15%!

When I switched to USAA, they told me flatly they didnt cover RVs. I left it with Allstate. ~200 per year, liability/pip only.

Have a couple vehicles with american collectors but also dont cover RVs.I wonder if the key is documenting apraisal and collectoer status.

I’m just trying for liability coverage. This just doesn’t make sense to me.

Robin, I called USAA when I bought the coach since they have my homeowners and the other cars. "We don't do RVs, but we have a deal with another
carrier. Call this number and tell them USAA sent you". Which number was Progressive, who stuck me for 2019. They jacked me from $125 a year to
$130. Liability only, I self insure for damage. I think the five was for Geoprgia Uninsured Motorist coverage which you may purchase if you'd like
to have a valid tag for your car. I think there's some way to opt out of it, but it's convoluted. And it's cheap, and since GA will not issue a
drivers license for anyone who isn't a citizen, there are a fair number of immigrants who must of necessity drive uninsured.

Call a broker and see how much they can cover it for on the open market by
itself. For liability only you should be paying less than 2k a year unless
you have a horrible claim history or terrible driving record.

I called USAA back. The lady said that I should have been transferred to a
partner company. $174 for a year of 100/300/100 with PIP (including work
loss) and zero deductible. I went ahead and paid it. :) Now to get a tag. :)
