Floor tile in a GMC

Hi Arch,

We started to install floor tiles on our Palm Beach but stopped when Irene
noticed that we'd have to install an additional subfloor to handle the
mounting hardware in the floor near our door. We're still considering using
a vinyl sheet stock material for part of the floor. Our theory is that the
floor movement will be better tolerated by a solid piece of flooring.
Having said that, I have seen a few coaches at rallies that had either
ceramic or vinyl tiles adhered to their floor. Looked nice. I assume that
they used self adhesive tiles.

Arch, you wouldn't be the first. I have seen it in coaches, either in
vinyl or in ceramic. Tile and inlaid.

For me, I had parquet wood tiles installed in the entry and galley area.
I used Liquid Nails as the adhesive.

The only problem I would anticipate with tiles is the different
temperature coefficient between the subfloor and the tile due to the
heat. I guess the wood tiles expand and contract with the subfloor while
vinyl may expand/contract differently.

Just leave a little more space at the sidewalls than you would in a home,
I guess.

We replaced the carpet with vinyl tile just before the Ukiah rally because
we got tired of having to clean the carpet after every trip. We haven't
noticed it being either colder or noisier. We glued & screwed down1/8" luan
and then treated that with a "pre-adhesive" coating before laying the self
adhesive tiles. Only one trip since, but Dege loves it, and that's what
really counts.

Assuming you do a bit of spilling in that big kitchen of yours, I suspect
you'll appreciate the quick clean up.

Arch,
Just finished installing ceramic tile in the kitchen area. Used a 12 x
12 tile with a latex flexible thin set cement. How long will it last?
If I don't like I will take it out and put something else in. Just like
remodeling a house.

Was afraid you'd ask. Got it at home depot, brushed or rolled on, looked
like white paint that didn't cover very well, had to let dry before layng
self adhesive vinyl.

I'll look tomorrow to see if there was any left. Otherwise I'll check for a
name next time at HD.
