The ramp and raised floor section at the back were put there to make it more comfortable to sit there. The
seats were installed on top of the propane and genset lockers. Because of the higher propane locker it made it
necessary to raise the seats higher than a normal height for your legs. They raised the floor 2 inches to make
up for this difference. Darren

It is made so that your feet will touch the floor when sitting on the rear
dinette. It also has a mounting plate in the floor for the post for the table.

The ramp does nothing except to raise the floor about an inch and a half. When I put my bed in back, I
removed it so I could put a drawer underneath. Works great.

Gene,

We went to see the tilt bed article and none of the links worked on
your page. Just thought you may want to know. Good picture of
your GMC though.

I must have missed something. What type of insulation are you refering
to, "I just received the insulation pad. I was quite surprised how
thick the
metal part was and how thin the insulation was. I liked the look of it"

I too have the material. It does look good. The sticky back won't in my
opinion make much of a difference in the installation. When you get the
wheel wells off, and take off the "stuff" connected to the back where the
cruise control et all is removed, a few screws are needed to hold it in
place. With the metal side out, it could be a good reflector. I find that
mine does give me the fire protection I was interested in, and secondary
the noise protection. I think I have both, but I do like the heavy
aluminum side that could protect the ceramic paper.

I don't know whether to thank you guys or not. I also have that ramp in
the back and wanted to remove it. After the urging of the last couple
Digests I ripped it out only to find out that some where in her jaded
past my GMC must have had a leak in that area and the sub floor is
rotted. Now I want to tell you my wife is planning a trip to Arizona in
January. Here is where you guys come in, just standing here looking it
seems like I should be able to pull the cover off the propane tank and
the same with the generator and that will give me enough access to pull
that section of the floor and replace it. Or... is this one of those
deals best left till we get back???

I had the same problem Terry and repaired mine very quickly once I figured
out how to do it. The method depends on how large the rotted area is.
Describe it please with a reference point. How wide ie; propane compartment
inner wall to generator inner wall. I did not take mine out under either
the propane tank or the generator. Was not rotted there. There are ribs
that go from side to side and I cut directly over one and rabbeted in a new
piece of 3/4' hardwood plywood (8 ply)I got from home depot. I completely
treatd it with Cuprinol. It should never rot again. Homedepot has pieces
2'X4' for about $9. I used construction adhesive at the joints, adn
stainless steel screws into the cross members. It is very solid, actually
better than the original as the quality of flooring material in mine was not
that good. Only exterior plywood.

There is really no reason to remove the propane and generator modules unless
the rot goes into the propane tank area. On the generator side it does not
penetrate the compartment. The structural members hold all of the weight.
The floor should be replaced from the top not the bottom. i never touched
the insulation or underside.

Have you probed the floor with a sharp pick to see how extensive the rot is?

Yeh, that will work. You might want to wait till you get back. You could
run into some problems. Broken bolts, fenders that won't easily come off
and the like. The foam insulation will be stuck to the plywood also. It's
not as big a job as it sounds when everything goes well though. Good luck.
