Has anyone had experience - good or bad - with through glass c.b. antennas?

I have changed my mirrors to bus type and already refinished my ceiling. I
bought a through glass antenna at a truck c.b. shop and he said I might or
might not get good reception. If this is not a good idea, what's left? That
is one of my next projects.

Can't specifically tell you about the CB band stuff, but I ran a through glass
on 144 MHz, and it worked great. Just be sure that you don't install anywhere
near a defogger grid, and ensure that the window you wish to use does not have
a mettallic based window tint - those are the main problems encountered with
through glass antennas. On my VHF antenna, I had to tune it for optimal
coupling through the glass, which required an SWR meter. I would not expect
that a CBer would be asked to do this, since they typically don't have the
test equipment that a ham operator would, so the antenna may offer a compromise
in that area in exchange for simplicity of installation. For what it is
worth, mine was an Avanti by Antenna Specialists.

I have one on my GMC - mounted as high next to the center post as I
could get it - it is a shortly version - only a couple feet tall - works
great on receive - has about 2 mile range on transmit - but for highway
travel that is fine for me

it will not work as well as a longer antenna but for the price and
convenience it was worth the installation

btw - I am an electrical engineer and ham radio op - do lots of work
with antennas both fixed and mobile

Ron Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about mounting on the driver's
side window and mounting the cb on the floor to the left of the seat or in
the map well.

By the way, do you have to pay ASCAP as royality each time someone visits
your page? I'll never tell. I don't pay dues to AGVA any more either.
