Just finished adding FiTech fuel injection to my '73 230. I watched
Jerry Work's presentation at the Coos Bay WS rally and knew he was going
to cost me money.
I applied the finishing touches on Saturday. I've only got about 25
miles on it but it has fixed a couple issues I had with my
less-than-perfect Q-Jet. I could never find a good GMC carb so I had an
Autozone rebuild with all the GMC parts I could scavenge from a warped
GMC Q-jet. It worked and got me 7.5 to 9.5 (rarely) MPG but it
definitely wasn't quite right.
The FiTech, even after only 25 miles of "learning" is already better
than my Q-Jet. We'll have to wait and see what the mileage might be.
As long as it doesn't go down I'm happy. Almost looking forward to
driving at high elevation in the heat. The last time I did 5000ft and
+90° it was not a pleasant experience.
The install is involved but certainly not difficult if you have the
mechanical skills. Here's how I did it.
