WOW! Got back Sunday night. We went from Lansing,Mi to
Key West,Florida and return. The first problem was before
we left. The carburetor was flooding the night before we
were going to leave. A local (CRAZY) mechanic was supposed
to fix it Saturday morning...but it seems he was on an all
night drunk. I waited all day at his shop...he showed up
at 6 in the afternoon. Rebuilt the carb, charged me $20.00.
No carb problems since. We set out around 7 saturday
evening. Got as far as Ohio, thru the alternator belt...
Replaced it, got some sleep and started off again in the
morning. We don't have engine air conditioner so ran with
the onan 4000 running the rooftop AC. Threw the Alt belt
again in Orangeburg,SC. Drove 200 miles using the onan and
an old batterycharger running the lights. Finialy got the
belt/alt problem fixed by shiming the alt bracket out with
washers. No problem with belt again until 20mile before the
end of the trip. Had a great time in the Florida Keys. And
got married on the beach! Saw two GMCs...One in the marina
in Key West. Knowone around to talk about it. A 23ft,White
GMC. Had a residence permit on the window. I think someones
living out of it. The other GMC was seen South of west palm
beach heading southbound, White pulling a boat. We waved and
got a wave back, sorry no CB radio yet. On the Florida
turnpike. We had a great trip! Logged 3263miles, Averaged
9.5 mpg. Running the onan all the way down, no genset on
return trip due to an oil leak. Very hot first day leaving
the Keys. We found that the intake manifold got too hot on
the heat crossover..burning wires and vaccum hoses. Wrapped
everything with aluminum foil as a temp fix. Worked great.
All for now,
