My experience is that, on level highway, with the dash AC running, the 160
degree thermostat will keep the engine at 160 until the outside air gets to
75-80 degrees. Once it gets above 80 or so, help from the fan is required
to keep the engine at 160. I had to adjust the thermostat on my fan clutch
so it will operate at the lower temperature. I am willing to accept the
additional fan noise in exchange for cooler operation on hot days.

Another alternative to adjusting the fan clutch could be to use one of the
heavy duty Hayden clutches. I think the 2747 and 2797 clutches transmit a
larger percentage of the engine speed to the fan when the clutch is
disengaged. The fan clutch I am using now is the OEM replacement from
Cinnabar. This one lets the fan speed drop off a lot when its disengaged. I
have not tried these other clutches but when it comes time to replace my
fan clutch I may do some experimenting.
