Thanks for the links, Marlene.

Even though our '99 Explorer tires are not part of the recall (we have
Wilderness AT, but 16"),
I would feel a lot better if Tom's Ford 250 hadn't had TWO (almost three)
delamination events this year, before this recall became news....and his
truck has the 16" Firestones on them.

Both blowouts, in which the entire tire delaminated, were about 4 months
apart and on rear tires. Fortunately he was able to keep control of the
vehicle; it helped that this is a pickup with a tool utility bed on it and
is fairly heavy...not much chance that it would roll. (But I added a few
words to my vocabulary when he had to change that first tire in a parking
lot at 2am, in a not-so-nice part of Houston!

The first time the Firestone dealer was cooperative and replaced the faulty
tire with a new one for $50.00. With the second incident (different tire),
he was not so sympathetic, but did finally offer the same deal: new tire for
$50.00. But by now Tom was getting antsy about these tires...and when he
noticed a bulge in the sidewall of the third Firestone - this time a front
tire - he took it back to the dealer. This time the dealer would do
nothing, explaining that until the tire delaminated, it could only be
pro-rated for a replacement. At that point Tom left and bought two new
Michelins and installed them on the front of the pickup.

Well, we have 16" Bridgestones on the GMC. And, let's see, Bridgestone owns
Firestone...*_*
